NASA’s spacecraft DAWN managed to enter the orbit of Ceres a while back, only to come back with some very fascinating feedback, to say the least. In January 2015, the first images of the planet Mars were retrieved causing a considerable amount of controversy. As you can see from the pictures of the giant crater-planet, two oddly bright spots can be seen in it. Not only that, but Dawn also returned with images of the flat surface of the planet with pyramids, or pyramid-like features, on it.
It appears to be a 3-mile-long structure and it is believed to be built with a different kind of material than the rest you can see on the planet. Wanting to learn more about this amazing discovery, NASA sent Dawn back on May 11th, 2015 to retrieve even more images of the planet and a new map of the surface. This time, instead of clearing up the rumors the way NASA usually does, there were even more white spots observed, ten in total.
Many believe that this is only ice or snow particles reflecting the lights, but there are a number of potential other explanations for what’s going on. Ceres recently reported water vapor emissions, indicating that life could certainly be present on this dwarf planet. This is why it was targeted by NASA; to begin with, NASA has always had an active interest in finding life beyond Earth.
