Daryl Simms, an expert on alien abductions, is approached by Patricia, who claims to have been abducted by aliens. Patricia tells Simms about her experience, which involves a UFO encounter while camping with her family near Lake Conroe, Texas. Her husband wakes her up in the middle of the night, claiming to have seen something in the river that turned out to be an otherworldly presence.
As they drive away, they witness a large light emanating from the middle of the lake that gets closer and closer to them. When they return to their campground, they find that they have lost time and the campfire has burned down significantly. A doctor later discovers surgical clips in Patricia's feet, leading her and Simms to visit Dr. Roger Lear, a podiatrist and specialist in examining claims of alien abductions.
Dr. Lear performs exploratory surgery and removes a foreign object from Patricia's foot. To his surprise, the object is surrounded by a biological cocoon of tissue. This tissue is eventually removed and sent for analysis, along with the metal object. Dr. Lear also removes a foreign object from another patient that same day.
